ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (WAWS/CNN) - A Florida surfer who was attacked by a shark escaped his assailant Friday, but not without leaving the water with a tooth in his foot.
Andrew Birchall fell victim to the shark, who also left three rows of teeth marks on his body. He said it felt like he was being hit with a sledgehammer.
Doctors performed surgery to remove the tooth and reconnect his severed tendons.
Birchall said he’s been surfing for 30 years but never though he would be attacked.
"You know, once I pulled my foot out of the water I saw it. I could see the teeth marks," said Birchall.
The tooth was sent away for testing.
Birchall said he wants it back to add to his story.
